LINKED- Autism Safety Project

VOLUNTARILY REGISTRATION FOR THE AUTISM ALERT SYSTEM

Allows families to provide important information to first responders and municipalities that can assist in high stress/emergency situations. Individuals of varying abilities can complete this form. it is not limited to Autism. 


FAMILY EMERGENCY PLANNING PACKETS

Packets provided to families that can assist in having important and relevant information available in crisis situations. The packets allow for families to pre-populate important information that might be needed in the time of an emergency. Also, included is emergency preparedness social story that contains text and illustration to introduce first responders professionals to individuals


SENSORY BAGS 

Bags are equipped with therapeutic grade tools and resources that can assist both individuals and first responders with developing trust and respect for one other.  Each bag contains a Picture Exchange Communication tool, noise cancelling headphones, light  sensitivity glasses, sensory sock, dry erase board (marker/eraser), an array of fidget toys that assist in stress and anxiety reduction.    

FIRST RESPONDER TRAINING 

Overview and basic understanding for individuals with cognitive and intellectual disabilities with a focus on Autism Spectrum Disorder. Insight provided from parent, clinical and first responder perspective to all first responders to understand behaviors, interactions, communication and additional needs. Training is approved and accredited through State of Connecticut Police Officers Standards Training and Office of Emergency Medical Services through the Department of Public Health.


COMMUNITY EVENTS & ACTIVITIES

Sensory friendly events hosted to bring the first responder community together with individuals with differing abilities. These events foster community engagement, positive relationships and awareness in a safe and comfortable environment.
